A unique and innovative app ‘Vote Ji’ was launched on Friday by the district administration of Cachar to attract voters, particularly youths and students, to enable them to exercise their franchise in the electoral process of the forthcoming general elections.

SILCHAR: A unique and innovative app 'Vote Ji' was launched on Friday by the district administration of Cachar to attract voters, particularly youths and students, to enable them to exercise their franchise in the electoral process of the forthcoming general elections. It is a voter based app under systematic voters' education and electoral participation (SVEEP) campaign of the administration for 2021 assembly elections.

The programme facilitating the app launch was organised at the conference hall of the office of the deputy commissioner here in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli and Assistant Commissioner Vibhor Agarwal. Keerthi Jalli said, ''Today's youths are obsessed with the use of mobile phones but often become oblivious of their fundamental right to vote.'' The app, she is hopeful, will motivate youths to cast their votes. The app, pointed out the Deputy Commissioner, has various features to make it effective and attractive as well as voter friendly.

Apart from encouraging voters to vote, people can take part in quiz contests, participate in events, access election related materials and earn game points. The masterminds of the app will be felicitated after election by the administration. Those exercising their franchise for the first time count for 35,894 of which 18000 are male and 17,894. 5000 persons have applied for postal ballots. 80 teams have been formed to verify the application. Postal ballots will be arranged for 4200 service voters.

Vibhor Agarwal said the app can be installed from Google Play store or Apple store. The app is based on point oriented gaming system where on completing various tasks like quiz, attending election related events, visiting polling booths and uploading selfie among others. The idea is to ensure that voters have basic information to become an enlightened voter. At the same time they can access it through an interesting interface. The app has mascot of the district administration's SVEEP campaign 'Mishti'. The app is dynamic in nature as it will add any new activity of the district administration related to the Assam assembly election.
