Unknown Donor Donates 40 Tolas of Gold to Batadraba Thaan

Guwahati: An unknown person has, reportedly, donated a staggering 40 tola gold (1 tola = 12 gram) to Batadrava Than in Nagaon. It is certainly a one of its kind incident to have happened in the state. Perhaps the donor had a big heart!

Over 460 grams of Gold were found surprisingly inside a donation box of the historic Batadrava Than (vaishnavite monastery) in Bordowa in Assam's Nagaon district

The Than managing committee found this jackpot two days ago while checking the donation boxes. The managing authority also informed that the 40 tola gold were recovered inside a bag which had been placed inside the donation box and also added that the gold resembled the shape of a biscuit.

Interestingly, the person who made this donation reportedly left a message which was inscribed in the bag but, however he did not mention his name.

Priests of Batadrava Than said that the anonymous donor has urged the authority to use them in the Kirtanghar of Srimanta Sankardev. They also added that the donor has shown a marvelous gesture and has valued the gold at a whopping Rs. 20 lakh.

" Every year we check the donation boxes. Likewise, this year we have checked the boxes two days back and found 40 tola gold in form of biscuits in a small bag. An unknown person has donated the gold to the Than. The person has written a letter to us requesting to use the gold in the construction of Sinhashan," a member of the Batadrava Than managing committee said.

The member hoped that this generous donation will pave way for future donations and requested people to donate for the Batadrava Than.

The Batadrava Than happens to be one of the most renowned Thans founded by Srimanta Sankaradev. The first ever Kirtanghar was set up by Sankaradev in this location back in 1468.

Also, Batadrava is the birth place of Saint Srimanta Shankardeva and it has been considered as one of the most sacred place in the state.

The state government aspires to develop Batadrava as an ideal destination for religious and cultural tourism. Therefore, the government designated a fund of Rs 155 Crore back in 2020 for the ambitious project.

The state government wants to develop the Batadrava Than like the famous Golden Temple situated in Amritsar.
