MANGALDAI: The unprecedented heavy flood caused by the rising water of the Brahmaputra river has caused a major damage to a large area of Ravi crop cultivation undertaken by 'Project Gorukhuti'-the dream project of Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma headed by Sootea legislator Padma Hazarika. The rising water of the Brahmaputra entering through the already breached portion of Dhalpur-Kacharijhar embankment inundated the Ravi Crop cultivation. The 'Project Gorukhuti' after its successful cultivation last year, this year had cultivated an area of 1200 bighas (160 hactre) with different high quality seeds of green mustard, coriander, cabbage, cauliflower, chilli pepper, brinjal, tomato, pumpkin, sesame, black gram, spinach etc with the high hope of gaining high yield and to sale it in market in advance.

However, chairman of 'Project Gorukhuti' and Sootea Padma Hazarika however is determined to continue the cultivation once the flood is over. "It is very unfortunate to see our green vegetable cultivation field inundated by this unexpected wave of unseasonal flood which has damaged approximately 75% of cultivation area. We were ready to take our agri produces to different markets at a considerable price. However we are determined to continue our cultivation with more zeal and enthusiasm. Our energetic agri volunteers are ready to concentrate more deeply in continuing the cultivation to reach our goal," Padma Hazarika said. On the other hand, though this flood has also caused damage to green fodders for Gir cows in the diary farm of 'Project Gorukhuti' alternative arrangements are being made to continue the supply of green fodders.

The first wave of flood in May had caused breach during the period of construction of Dhalpur- Kacharijhar embankment and due to non receding of the flood water, the re-construction of the breached portion of the embankment could be undertaken.
