Upendra Nath Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award to be conferred on Dr Abhay Bang
The Upendra Nath Brahma Trust has decided to confer the 18th edition of Bodofa UN Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award, 2021 to Dr. Abhay Bang of Maharashtra.
KOKRAJHAR: The Upendra Nath Brahma Trust has decided to confer the 18th edition of Bodofa UN Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award, 2021 to Dr. Abhay Bang of Maharashtra. The chairman of UNB Trust Dr. Subung Basumatary said the trust has decided to confer the 18th edition of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award, 2021 to Dr. Abhay Bang, a public health and tribal rights activist, for his immense contribution towards improving the health care systems of tribes in remote Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra. Dr. Bang along with her wife Dr. Rani Bang, having been influenced by Gandhian principles, founded a non-profit organization, Society for Education.
Basumatary said Dr. Abhay was selected for his untiring endeavours towards ensuring affordable access to healthcare for downtrodden communities in India is appreciated across the world. Dr. Bang's model of Home-Based Newborn Care has been replicated in many countries. "At this juncture of public health crisis across the globe due to COVID-19 pandemic, UNBT feels really proud to announce the conferment of 18th Upendra Nath Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award 2021 to Dr. Abhay Bang," he said.
Dr. Basumatary, Chairman of UNBT said, "The eminent jury entrusted with selecting an awardee for this year's Bodofa UNB Soldier of Humanity Award 2021, has selected Dr. Abhay Bang in recognition to his immense contribution towards the uplift of health of backward tribes in Maharashtra in particular and contribution towards improving public health scenario in general by his direct field intervention, research, writing and training. His deeds towards promoting humanity are unmatchable. He has not only won several prestigious awards but also has won hearts and minds of people across the world. We are so grateful to him for accepting 18th Bodofa UNB Soldier of Humanity Award 2021."
The award consist of a cash of 1 lakh, a memento, citation and indigenous eri shawl. The chairman of the trust also informed the media that the award will be conferred on November 13 in presence of several distinguished guests at Kokrajhar.
