KOKRAJHAR: Different political parties were seen intensifying their political activities across BTR to garner support. The ruling UPPL has been carrying out massive campaigning drives and their leaders are working overtime to retain power while the youth wing of the BPF has been running from one corner to the other outbursting failures of UPPL’s poll promises.

The regular joining of leaders of different political parties and student organizations in UPPL has strengthened the party’s bases. Within the last three days, three notable figures and hundreds of their colleagues have joined the UPPL to strengthen Pramod Boro’s political power. On June 4, former Chief Convener of People’s Joint Action Committee for Bodoland Movement (PJACBM) and President of People’s Democratic Movement of Bodoland (PDMB) Jebra Ram Mashahary and his colleagues joined the UPPL in Kokrajhar.

On June 5, former central working committee member of the BPF Bharat Sharma alias Bablu Sharma along with over 500 citizens of Kokrajhar joined the UPPL in Kokrajhar while former president of the NDFB (D) Dhiren Boro also joined the UPPL on June 6 in Kokrajhar.

The CEM of BTC and the President of the UPPL, Pramod Boro, MP Joyanta Basumatary, MLA Lawrence Islary, General Secretary of UPPL Raju Kr Narzary, UPPL’s women wing President Pratibha Brahma, former Deputy chief of BTC Kampa Borgoyari and Nominated Member of BTC Madhav Chandra Chetri welcomed the new members with traditional Aronai and party scarf.

Talking to mediapersons, ex-president of the NDFB (D) Dhiren Boro said that they had decided to keep distance from political parties and put pressure upon government to solve the problems of the NDFB from outside but realized that they should work closely with the ruling political party to solve their remaining problems. He said that the UPPL was the only political party to pursue the governments of India and Assam to bring solutions to their problems.

On the other hand, former chief coordinator of the PJACBM Jebra Ram Mashahary said that the BPF governed the BTC for 17 years and brought significant development and the UPPL had been running the BTC for over four years and focused on sustainable development to all communities with collective responsibilities. The UPPL was becoming an emerging political power of the region while the BPF has been losing its ground and thus to bring more development and to sustain peace among all, giving support to UPPL is a natural call, he said, adding that over 500 former colleagues and members of PJACBM and PDMB would join the UPPL within a short time.
