KOKRAJHAR: The UPPL youth leaders’ meet-cum-orientation programme was held at Bodofa Cultural Complex, Kokrajhar, on Monday evening with Dr Sangrang Brahma, president of the Youth Wing UPPL, in the chair.

Addressing the huge gathering, the Chief of BTR and President of the UPPL Pramod Boro said, “When I was an ABSU leader, I saw that for holding meetings, be they of student organizations or political parties, schools were requisitioned and no community halls were constructed even after 75 years of independence. Therefore, our government has constructed community halls in 40 constituencies of BTC, 40 in the name of Martyr Sujit Narzary at a cost of Rs 1 crore each. Mini stadiums in the name of BLT founder Chairman Bir Chilagang Basumatary in all assembly constituencies are being made, of which 12 have been completed till today, while 420 VCDC offices have been built.” He added that the present council government had opened 120 knowledge centres from where people from different countries would be able to interact with the people of Bodoland to share and exchange knowledge on different fields.

Boro said that even after 70 years of independence, many indigenous tribal people had no land. He said that land pattas were recently distributed to over 1400 families in Porbotjhora, where Xahitya Akademy award winner Janil Kr Brahma was given a patta of a 2-katha plot of land. He also said that the Government of BTR had launched Mission Bwiswmuthi, through which land-related services were being provided to the people of the region and land pattas distributed to landless people, and after Mission Bwiswmuthi 2.0, as of now, over 3.33 people had been provided land-related services.

“Youths are our future. If they are not good, our future will also not be good, and so our focus is on the six lakh youth workers,” Boro added.

The meeting was also addressed by the general secretary of the UPPL, Raju Kr Narzary, MP (Rajya Sabha) Rwngwra Narzary, former deputy chief of BTC Kampa Borgoyari, and others.
