DHUBRI: Though vaccine hesitancy among the people has considerably come down, yet supply of vaccines in less quantity is affecting the ongoing vaccination in South Salmara-Mancachar district.

In the district, 58,245 people got vaccinated out of the 3.5 lakh target calculated from 18 plus population. South Salmara-Mancachar district Immunization Officer Dr. Sirazul Islam informed that on an average, vaccination was going on in 18 centres, but on Tuesday the vaccine stock was exhausted.

"It was a tough time in the initial days to convince the people about taking vaccine due to widespread rumours. But slowly, with intervention by social group like Simanta Chetana Manch, Purvottar, Mancachar unit of Marwari Yuva Manch and lawyers, people started come to centres for vaccination," Dr. Islam added.

Dr. Islam also informed that they had organized several awareness meetings with local people and created confidence among them about the efficacy of the vaccine. If the supply of vaccine remains constant, then it would take maximum 6 months from now to cover the targeted population, Dr. Islam further added.
