TINSUKIA: Moran Students’ Union and other ethnic organizations have set a 24-hour deadline to trace Pranjal Moran dead or alive who was working in an illegal coal mine in Ledu.
In a joint press meet at Tinsukia Press Club on Wednesday, Naba Moran, president of Moran Students’ Union, urged the direct intervention of the DGP and Chief Minister in this regard.
Naba Moran stated that Pranjal Moran had gone missing in a Ledu mine on January 12. The family members lodged an FIR on February 2 which was registered on February 6. Since then, neither the police nor the administration has taken any initiative to trace the missing miner, Moran alleged, even as local media reported that Pranjal had died inside the mine. The owner of the coal mine or his representatives refrained from informing the whereabouts of the miner despite several attempts.
Expressing deep anguish, Moran demanded the Tinsukia civil and police administrations to arrest the culprits with suitable compensation to the family, and to close down all illegal coal mines under Margherita subdivision. Milon Borgohain of All Tai Ahom Students’ Union also addressed the media persons.
