DIBRUGARH: VKV Dibrugarh observed Srimanta Sankardev Tithi on Monday with great devotion towards the great religious leader of Assamese culture.

The programme started with 'mangalacharan'. RD Savdeykar, Principal of VKV Dibrugarh gave the welcome address and felicitated the chief guest Dr. Gopal Chandra Hazarika, retired HOD of Mathematics department, Dibrugarh University and a famous educationalist. Currently he is associated with various cultural activities.

The chief guest in his speech enlightened the audience with the valuable creation of Srimanta Sankardev. He narrated many interesting incidents from the life of Srimanta Sankardev. He also highlighted Srimanta Sankardev's contribution in various fields like literature, performing arts, religious reforms. He sang and explained some lines of pada chand, chobi, dulori, totoy, chopoy composed by Srimanta Sankardev.

He also added significance of Brajawali language which was created by Srimanta Sankardev for the common people. Students of classes VI and VII performed Matti Akhora, Jugalbandi of Khol and Jhumura Nritya. R M Thakre Vice-Principal, VKV Dibrugarh, gave the vote of thanks. The programme concluded with Shanti path.
