TINSUKIA: A State-level webinar was organized by DIET Tinsukia in collaboration with All Assam DIET Officers' Association (AADOA) on the topic 'Challenges and Prospects of DIETs in Assam in the light of NEP, 2020' recently. Representatives of 23 DIETs of Assam along with their Principals participated in the webinar.

The inaugural speech was given by Dr Nirada Devi, Director, SCERT Assam. In the light of NEP 2020, Dr Devi emphasized the need of creating quality teachers and at the same time highlighted the need of enhancement of the teacher education system given the changing times. Along with the regular teacher education courses, integrated B.Ed course would be functional in the coming days, said the Director of SCERT while mentioning the importance of creating a cohesive atmosphere amongst the teacher education institutions, colleges and universities, stated a DIET communiqué issued by Riswita Sarmah, lecturer of DIET Tinsukia.

Guest speaker Dr. Hari Prasad Sarma, Professor and Head, Department of Environmental Science, and former Rector, Gauhati University stated that in the endeavour to create quality teachers one must remember to evoke the ancient Indian education system. The other invited speakers who spoke on various perspectives were Pradip Sarma, retired senior lecturer and former secretary of AADOA, and Ratul Neog, Principal DIET Morigaon and president of All Assam DIET Officers; Association (AADOA). The Principals of different DIETs extended their speeches on the potential things to come in the light of NEP 2020. The discussion highlighted the development of DIETs and on opportunities for further academic empowerment of DIET faculties. The question-answer session was presided over by the chairperson of the webinar, Dr. Kularanjan Deka. Earlier, welcome address was given by Nripen Saikia, Principal of DIET Tinsukia.
