JOYSAGAR: Man-elephant conflict is on the rise in many villages of Sivasagar district. A big herd of wild elephants entered the Desang and Konwarpur panchayat area on Sunday night. The wild elephants destroyed paddy crops as well as few huts in Shantipur and Harmoti villages.

Besides, wild jumbos also wreaked havoc in Amguri tea estate area and in the Halwating tea estate area. This is the season in which paddy crops start ripening in the fields and wild elephants come in the evening from the nearby Abhaipur, Panidehing, Netai, Desang, Gelakey, Borshill, and Borsila forests.

Villagers of Bohuabari Paraliguri and Netai have alleged that the copper fencing meant to protect the people of Netai-Thawra-Paraliguri and Dehing is not working. Panic has gripped the people of the area. However, there has been no report of any casualty in the wild jumbo attack of Sunday night.
