Will Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi Defect to BJP?

GUWAHATI: After a large number of Congress leaders all over the country switched sides to the ruling BJP, now speculation has emerged that Nagaon Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi will defect the Opposition party to the saffron brigade.

Interestingly, a section of BJP leaders has, reportedly, prepared themselves to welcome the Congress heavyweight.

Commenting on the speculation, Nalbari BJP MLA Jayanta Malla Barua categorically stated that the ruling party is always ready to welcome all who wish to work for the protection of the Santani Culture.

"Be it Pradyut Bordoloi or others, we are always ready to welcome all who wish to work for the protection of the Santani Culture. But the final call will be taken by our High Command," the MLA, who is also close to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, added.

Earlier, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma taking a dig at the Grand Old party said that only those who are helpless are staying with the Congress.

It could be noted that recently two Congress MLAs Rupjyoti Kurmi and Sushanta Borgohain left the party and join the BJP. Also, a large number of Congress workers migrated to the ruling party after the last Assam assembly elections in 2021.

According to sources, the BJP has also been trying to persuade two more Assam Congress MLAs to switch sides.

Earlier, speculation about the party has grown as a result of the party workers' views. In the midst of mounting speculation over the future state committee's crucial portfolio bearer, its MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi has suggested that MP Prodyut Bordoloi or former MLA Bhupen Bora will be the party's next State Committee president. He did, however, say that former Minister Rockeybool Hossain had a good chance of becoming the next State APCC president.
