Woman arrested with huge amount of illegal cough syrup in Bongaigaon

BONGAIGAON: Following information, Bongaigaon police nabbed a huge amount of illegal cough syrup on Wednesday at Bongaigaon Borpara Bus stand. A woman who was used to transport these illegal drugs, namely Arifa Khatun, a resident of East Bilaspur area of Chirang district, was also arrested from the spot.

Talking to the press, Arifa said that she was just a carrier. “A person gives me the stack at Chapaguri area and I carry it to Chalantapara. There, I have to hand it over to another person. I have to carry such a lot once, twice, or more times in a month. In return, they pay me fifteen thousand rupees per month,” Arife said.

But she denied knowledge of the identities of the suppliers. “I don’t know their names or addresses. We don’t ask names or addresses. Moreover, I started this just one month ago,” she said.

Police arrested her and started an investigation to crack down the drug racket.
