Woman killed in road accident at broad daylight in Silchar

SILCHAR: Just a day after the tragic accident at Jalukbari that left seven Assam Engineering College students dead, a speeding ambassador car hit a woman at broad daylight on Tuesday in Silchar town. The driver, who lost his control over the vehicle and hit the elderly lady, was reportedly drunk. The deceased was identified as Gauri Nunia. The tragic accident happened on Tuesday morning at around 10 am when the speeding ambassador car, coming from Assam University side hit Nunia from her back at Kuwarpar in Meherpur area. The driver lost control over the car and fell at the roadside. Nunia was rushed to Silchar Medical College and Hospital where she was declared dead. Meanwhile, local people came out in the street in protest against the incident as they alleged that such accidents had become a daily routine.
