LAKHIMPUR: The activists of the Lakhimpur district unit of Veer Lachit Sena on Wednesday handed over five people, two men from Rajasthan and three women of the native district, for their suspicious activities of women trafficking.

As per report, these five people, along with two girls, one minor while other is matured, arrived at the Ganesh Mandir near North Lakhimpur town. They arrived at the Mandir to perform wedding of the two girls with the two men from Rajasthan. Receiving the information, the activists of the organization arrived at the Mandir premises and interrogated them about the matter. Then the minor girl informed them that the two men from Rajasthan planned to take them to their native State by performing the wedding rituals. In this connection, the three women played the role of mediator.

On observing their suspicious activities, the activists of the organization suspected them to be members of a human trafficking racket and handed over them to the Khelmati Police Outpost of North Lakhimpur town. In this connection, the organization lodged an FIR at the Police Outpost concerned against the five people. The minor girl hails from Dibrugarh while the matured girl lives in Lakhimpur district.

"We are looking into the case. The investigation is underway," stated the in-charge of Khelmati Police Outpost when contacted. Meanwhile, Khelmati Police detained the five people along with the two girls.
