Tezpur: A day-long workshop on post-COVID pulmonary rehabilitation for physiotherapists was held at Tezpur on Tuesday. The programme was organized by Health Specifics Academy, Assam and was presided by Tezpur MLA Prithviraj Rabha in presence of renowned actor Chetena Das, senior journalist Dip Kumar Kalita and Pulak Kumar Deka. They encouraged the physiotherapists and said that stress management after COVID is also an important part for COVID recovery along with rehabilitation.

The resource person for the workshop was Dr. Sumanta Ghosh PT (Masters in Cardio-Respiratory Physiotherapy from Jamia Hamard University Delhi, WHO Post-COVID Rehabilitation certified) senior consultant cardio-respiratory physiotherapist. He has earlier headed the Respiratory Physiotherapy unit in Max Super Speciality Hospital Saket Delhi and Philips Respiratory Homecare services. The workshop was earlier inaugurated by Dr. Pradip Kumar Lahkar who encouraged the attendees by saying that physiotherapy plays an outmost important role in COVID management both in the ICU as well as during recovery. The workshop was attended by physiotherapists from various districts of Assam and Nagaland. While talking to The Sentinel, Dr Sumanta Ghosh said that pulmonary rehabilitation treatment done by physiotherapist plays a key role in the recovery of COVID patients both in the acute stage like ICU rehabilitation and patients having symptoms of breathlessness, fatigue, pain etc. and even after recovery from COVID which is termed as long COVID. WHO recommends long COVID rehabilitation for patients by physiotherapist specializing in the field.
