MANGALDAI: Mangaldai wildlife division with technical support from Assam Wildlife Rescue and Research Organization (AWRRO), Lakhimpur, on Sunday held a capacity building workshop for the front runner forest staff of the park on the identification of the venomous and non-venomous snakes and ethical rescue of small mammals at the conference hall of Orang National Park and Tiger Reserve (ONPTR). Participating in the workshop as the resource persons, Tilak Pradhan, Chairman of AWRRO, and Debajit Mahanta, an office bearer, presented an insightful discussion on the topics supported by relevant photographs and videos. They explained the scientific techniques on safe rescue of a snake or small mammal without putting the life of the rescuer in any risk. The speakers also advised the rescuers to avoid social media reels and rather follow the rescue ethics and use safety tools at the time of practice. Hands-on demonstrations on the proper rescue techniques were also displayed in the daylong workshop. Pradipta Baruah, DFO, Mangaldai wildlife division, also addressed participants.
