BAJALI: Manas National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, marked World Elephant Day with enthusiasm at its Bansbari range. The day, observed globally to raise awareness on elephant conservation, featured a blend of celebration and education. Forest officials treated elephants to bananas, cucumbers, sugarcane, apples, and other fruits, while mahouts received clothes as a token of appreciation.

To inspire young minds, quiz and drawing competitions were held at the Bansbari range office, drawing participation from students across various ranges of Manas. Field Director Dr C Ramesh, Deputy Field Director Sheshidhar Reddy, Ranger Barin Boro, forest staff, mahouts, and local residents attended the programme.

The event highlighted the importance of protecting these gentle giants and their role in maintaining ecological balance. Through community involvement and youth engagement, the celebration reinforced the park’s commitment to conserving elephants for future generations.

The competition was conducted by members of the Golaghat District Moina Parijat’s reception committee for the upcoming state-level children’s festival, Jatin Gogoi, Pranjal Das, and Sunil Das. Chief guests included Golaghat District Moina Parijat’s general secretary Karmeswar Gogoi and Chief Organizing Secretary Sunil Dutta.
