TEZPUR: The district-level observance of World Population Day (WPD) 2025, along with the formal launch of the Population Stabilization Fortnight, was held at Tezpur Government Higher Secondary School. The programme was chaired by Dr Jagadish Goswami, Joint Director of Health Services, Sonitpur.
Distinguished guests included Rubi Kolita, District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO), the District Programme Manager (DPM) of NHM, the Principal of Tezpur Govt HS School, a representative from the IPAS Foundation, and the President of the Nursing Association, Sonitpur.
The event witnessed vibrant participation from a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including eligible couples, ASHAs (Accredited Social Health Activists), Anganwadi Workers (AWWs), supervisors, Urban Health Centre (UHC) personnel, and members of the District Programme Management Unit (DPMU).
A key highlight of the occasion was the felicitation of six ASHA workers for their outstanding service in delivering family planning interventions during the financial year 2024–25. Their dedication to grassroots health outreach was warmly appreciated by the dignitaries.
To kickstart the fortnight-long awareness campaign, the ‘Sarathi Van,’ a specially-designed mobile awareness unit, was ceremoniously flagged off by the DSWO. The van will traverse key areas of the district, spreading awareness on population control and reproductive health.
The programme reflected the unified commitment of the health department and allied sectors in empowering communities through informed family planning choices, ensuring better reproductive health, and promoting sustainable population growth in the district.
