World Population Day Observed with Awareness Program in Golakganj

DHUBRI: The World Population Day was observed with an awareness programme organized by the Dhubri District Health Society in collaboration with the Golakganj Block Primary Health Centre at Chinmoyee Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Golakganj on Friday. The programme was conducted under the guidance of District Media Expert of the Dhubri District Health Society, Moyez Uddin Ahmed.

Speaking at the event, Sub-divisional Medical Officer of the Golakganj Block PHC, Dr AK Azad, highlighted the rising trend of population growth both globally and in India, and its direct impact on the socio-economic fabric of society, including the current situation in Dhubri district.

He stressed on strict adherence to the government’s health policies and urged every couple to follow the ‘Two-child norm’ for a sustainable future.

In the awareness meeting, Dr MH Khandakar delivered a thoughtful speech on family planning encouraging everyone to follow proper health guidelines, marry responsibly, and have only two children to ensure a happy family life. He further stated that following the two-child policy can significantly reduce maternal, neonatal, and child mortality rates in our society.

Senior State Coordinator of Ipas Foundation, Mriganka Saikia, working in the field of family planning, provided an in-depth explanation of various family planning methods. He mentioned that besides other methods available in Dhubri district, the Implant Method is now accessible at Dhubri Medical College and Bilasipara Model Hospital.

In the district-level inauguration and awareness event, attendees included Dr Prerna Khetawat, District Family Planning Coordinator Rafiqul Islam, along with officials and health workers of the Golakganj Block PHC and ASHA workers. During the programme, based on their outstanding performance in 2024, three ASHA workers, Amina Bibi, Sabita Roy, and Shukla Roy, were honoured with certificates of appreciation.
