Xatradhikar Dharmeshwar Mahanta passes away at 87, Sankari cultural circle mourns loss

JAMUGURIHAT: Dharmeshwar Mahanta, a resident of Barbhagiya village here and Satradhikar of Sri Sri Teteliguri Satra located at Barbhagiya, breathed his last on Monday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Tezpur. He was 87. He was closely associated with the Baresohoriya Bhaona Committee, Assam Satra Mahasabha, and Basudev Than Management Committee, among others. A retired employee of the PWD, Late Mahanta was a popular bhaona artiste of the area. Mahanta was a preacher of Sankari culture, and his demise cast a pall of gloom in the area. Individuals and organizations paid homage to his mortal remains on Tuesday morning before the last rites. He leaves behind his wife, three daughters, and other relatives.
