LAKHIMPUR: Noted exponent of Xatriya Culture, Durlabh Dev Goswami is no more. He breathed his last at Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) at around 7:45 on Friday night. He was the xatriya-cum-resident of the Basudev Than Naruwa Xatra, the noted Baishnav Peeth of the North Eastern region, located in Dhakuakhana of Lakhimpur district.
Durlabh Dev Goswami had been ill for a long period. As a result of it, he was admitted to Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh on June 30. Later on July 13, he was shifted to Guwahati for advanced treatment and he was admitted to a private sector nursing home. But his health deteriorated critically and the attending doctors had been observing him by keeping him in ICU for a couple of days in the private sector nursing home in Guwahati. However, he was shifted to the GMCH on July 19 and he had been under treatment there till his death. He rendered his service as the priest of the Basudev Than (Mandir) of the Xatra. He was popular among the devotees for his amiable behaviour. He practised Xatria Culture devotionally and worked wholeheartedly to spread it in the society by conducting coaching and training. He also served as the general secretary of Basudev Than Naruwa Xatra Management and Development Committee.
At his demise, Dhakuakhana MLA Naba Kumar Doley, Dhakuakhana SDO (Civil) Arindam Baruah, Xatradhikar Bhupendra Dev Goswami, Deka Xatradhikar Bhogendra Dev Goswami, disciples and devotees of the Xatra expressed profound condolence and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul. They expressed their sympathy for the bereaved family. He was survived by his wife two daughters, a son and a host of relatives.
