Youth arrested for rape and murder of minor girl in Hojai

Hojai: In a sensational incident, the Hojai Police arrested a youth for allegedly raping and murdering a five-year-old girl at Daria Basti in Hojai district on Thursday. The accused has been identified as Bikram Harijan alias Chandan (28) of the same area. The body of the victim was recovered by her father on Thursday morning. As per information, the child was missing since February 26. Speaking to media persons, Jangmir Rongpharpi, Assistant Commissioner, said, “The child was missing since yesterday. After the preliminary investigation, it is clear that the child was raped and murdered.”

A case (No 164/20) under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 has been registered against the accused with the Hojai Police.
