GAURISAGAR: Dikhowmukh Swarna Sakha Xahitya Xabha on Friday organized a public felicitation meeting held at Bir Chilarai Bhawan, Khanakhokora, with a view to felicitate Suprakash Bhuyan, a young and talented story writer of Dikhowmukh Guwal Gaon on the outskirts of Gaurisagar in Sivasagar district. Bhuyan was conferred with the Xahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar 2025 in the Assamese language for his story book ‘Kuchiyanama.’

Bhuyan was born in 1990 at Dikhowmukh Guwal Gayan Gaon. He is the son of Santiram Bhuyan and Ranu Bhuyan. A postgraduate in English, Suprakash Bhuyan started his literary journey in 2008. His first story book ‘Sisifasor Prithivi’ was published by Xahitya Academy, Kolkata. Kuchiyanama is his second book published by Purbayan Prakashan, Guwahati. His stories are regularly published in magazines like Gariyashi, Prakash, Satsori, Prantik, etc. An alumnus of Dikhowmukh HS School, Suprakash is presently serving as an assistant teacher in the school.

On Friday, Suprakash was felicitated by various organizations like Dikhowmukh Swarna Sakha Xahitya Xabha, AASU, the Dikhowmukh Regional Unit, Dikhowmukh College, Khanakhokora HS School, Dikhowmukh HS School, the Alumni Association of Dikhowmukh HS School, and the Gaurisagar Press Club, along with others.

Receiving the public felicitation, Bhuyan expressed his gratitude to those who considered him worthy of this award. He said, “We have to love our mother tongue. Mother tongue is like mother’s milk. Loving your language means loving your mother.”

The programme was anchored by Bidyut Bikash Baruah, secretary of Dikhowmukh Swarna Sakha Xahitya Xabha.
