Assam Transport minister takes stock of situation to ensure smooth delivery of goods

GUWAHATI: State transport minister Chandra Mohan Patowary is working with Indian Railways and Food and Civil Supplies Department to ensure uninterrupted supply of goods to the state. In a meeting with senior officers he asked them to ensure that vehicles are available to bring in food and essential commodities into the state.

For this purpose, railway yards located at Azara, New Guwahati and Changsari need to function smoothly.

The transport department has provided 76 buses to provide services to health official. 20 of them are operating in Guwahati.

Precautions are also being taken to provide people working under a lockdown with sanitisers and masks so that they can work smoothly.

Meanwhile, Assam COVID-19 positive cases have reached 28 on April 7 as the presence of the deadly virus has been found in a person from Hailakandi. Informing this Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Tuesday tweeted, “A person from Hailakandi with a travel history to Saudi Arabia has been confirmed positive for COVID-19. The total number of Coronavirus cases in Assam is now 28.” Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that this case along with the majority of these cases has been linked with the controversial religious congregation held in South Delhi’s Nizamuddin Dargah last month.
