Assam Rifles apprehends 4 smugglers at Rangirkhari

Silchar: Notwithstanding all the measures adopted by the sub divisional administrative and security machinery along NH 37 and at strategic points, there is no let up in the smuggling in of contraband goods. Smugglers continue to have their field day. During the last four months, the records with the police speak of at least 6 cases of illegal transportation of drugs, heroin, cannabis, opium and other psychopic substances. Within a gap of 72 hours, two more catches of intoxicating substances have come. The route is familiar and the pattern almost identical. SI Soumar Ray of jirighat police station got the information about delivery of huge quantity of ganja (opium) near the infamous Lalpani area.

Accordingly, SDPO Lakhipur Anurag Sharma along with OC Jirighat, SI Kulendra Nath, ASI Joychandra Singh and staff laid a trap at the identified spot. After some wait, they could see a truck and an Innova making some brisk delivery on road side. The waiting squad jumped into action, apprehended 4 persons and seized 150 kgs of opium from the two vehicles. The four peddlers arrested have been identified as Indrajit Meitei of Imphal East, Raingam of Ukhrul, Bidyut Deb of Lakhipur and Jimpu Das of Fulertal. They have been booked under section 20 (c)/ 29 NDPS Act 1985.

Just 24 hours ago of this operation, 37 Assam Rifles had apprehended four smugglers with 130 gram heroin valued at Rs 14 lakh from their houses at the village of Syedpur near this town assisted by the police team of Rangirkhari outpost. The smugglers have been identified as Jakir Hussain Laskar (35), Mussabir Hussain Laskar (28) and Rakib Hussain Laskar (25). After being handed over to the Rangirkhari outpost police, they have been subjected to judicial and legal proceedings. And the serial goes on.
