Barak Valley Stands As one to defeat novel coronavirus

Special Correspondent

Silchar: Along with the entire country, people of Barak Valley cutting across caste, creed and community as well as political allegiance stood up as one man at the call of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to go for self-quarantine and foil the contagious spread of the dreadful COVID-19 virus, a step that has come for high appreciation from the World Health Organisation. Even scientists across the globe have high word of praise for such a novel idea which has deeper scientific implications. As the country comes under lockdown for 14 hours, the chain with contagious virus from the infected persons gets disconnected and the virus which otherwise survives for 6 hours is dead.

The valley has also responded well to another call of the Prime Minister to stand up on every opening space of house and greet the persons on essential services by blowing conch shell, sounding cymbals and metal bells at 5pm for 5 minutes. This also has a scientific basis. The sound waves created will surely disrupt the travel of virus and repel it. The holy sound in the evening at temples, churches and azan from mosques quells the evil elements for the betterment of humanity.

With the outbreak of dawn, the entire valley was under lockdown. Reports from the three districts of Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi gave a complete and perfect picture of unique solidarity. Roads and streets were deserted. No flights took off or landed at the Kumbhirgram airport. One or two trains were seen chugging in at Silchar railway station which had started their journey before 12 last midnight. Inter valley and long distance buses did not ply. The gravity of the situation has been well understood by people. Death has mounted to 6 and more than 300 persons have been infected. The message is loud and clear, follow the guidelines or perish.
