Chondoneer Fondly Remembers Cultural Icons On World Music Day

SILCHAR: Chondoneer, a socio-cultural organization, is on a roll. Of late, they have been in the news for churning out some of the best and unique programmes, events and functions. World Music Day which falls on June 21 was celebrated at the conference hall here on Friday evening by Chondoneer in the most unique manner.

This year the members of Chondoneer thought of inventing old music maestros who in the yesteryears were living legends and continue to be so. They were associated with either singing, playing musical instruments and dancing.

The unique programme compered by Dipak Sengupta began with felicitation of these five living legends or music maestros of Barak Valley – Gopikanta Singha, vocalist, Bhaskar Choudhury, tabla player, Deepak Bhattacharjee, vocalist, Ratan Biswas, sitar player and Shibani Chakraborty, dancer. These artistes were overjoyed to meet each other. It was indeed a cultural get-together for them. People attending the programme were equally thrilled to meet them. Each of the invited artistes shared their experiences. It was indeed a historic moment when Deepak Bhattacharjee crooned a song, Bhaskar Choudhury played on a tabla while Shibani Chakraborty and Nandini Chakraborty danced a little. Honouring these guests enriched the organizers.
