Grocery Shops with self-marked distancing to remain open in Hailakandi

Hailakandi: Wholesale and retail grocery shops will remain open from 9 am to 3 pm throughout Hailakandi district. An order to this effect was issued by District Magistrate, Keerthi Jalli on Friday. The order stated that only those grocery shops will remain open where self-marking maintaining social distancing both within and outside have been done. It also stated that the shops have to maintain hygiene strictly and ensure no hike for MRP of essential goods.

All fish and meat shops will remain closed up to March 31 until further orders. The order further stated that two persons per family will be allowed to buy essentials from the nearest vendor and that too on foot only. No vehicles will be allowed to ply, except for emergency reasons and delivery of essentials.

With the aim to keep more and more people indoors during the lock down period, the administration has started delivery of groceries at homes at a nominal service delivery. A joint initiative of the district administration and Hailakandi Municipal Board, the delivery of groceries at doorstep of the people will cover all the 16 wards.

The administration is mulling to start such services in other towns of the district during the lock down period. Altogether 1,235 persons have been home quarantined with 45 quarantined on Friday. Samples of three persons sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital tested negative.
