Independence Day Run Organized in Hailakandi

Hailakandi: The Hailakandi district administration in association with Inspector of Schools and District Sports Officer observed the Independence Day Run on Wednesday. Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli flagged off the run in the presence of senior officials at her office premises in the wee hours.

The rally traversed through Bata Point-Old Hospital Road-Kalibari Point and other thoroughfares of the town. Students from schools and colleges, members from National Cadet Corps, National Social Service and government officials and employees took part in the run. DC Jalli appealed to the people from all walks of life to participate in the event to further strengthen the unity and integrity of the country.

The district administration organized quiz, speech and art competitions among school and college students on the theme of India’s freedom struggle. Jashna-e-Azadi, a colourful cultural medley of songs and dance involving schools and cultural organizations was organized at Women’s College auditorium by the district administration in association with DIPRO, E-Media Association and Inspector of Schools Tuesday evening. The almost three-hour-long programme revolving on India’s freedom from British yoke kept the audience spellbound and infused patriotic fervour. The cultural event was inaugurated by Additional Deputy Commissioner, RK Dam in presence of DIPRO, Sabir Nishat, Inspector of Schools, Rajiv Kumar Jha and E Media Association president, Nilotpol Deb.

As part of the three-day Independence Day celebrations, cleaning of statues of freedom fighters, planting of saplings and illumination of government buildings and offices have been organised. DC Keerthi Jalli will unfurl the national tricolour at her office campus Thursday. Various programmes have been lined up, including distribution of prizes and disbursement of financial assistance under government schemes, cultural programme, football match and screening of patriotic movies.
