Swachh Survekshan Grameen Mission Targets Changing Mindsets

Hailakandi: Hailakandi Deputy Commissioner, Keerthi Jalli said inducing behavioural change and change in mindset is of utmost importance in bringing about the desired change in cleanliness.

Speaking at the district level function of Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2019, DC Jalli said that building toilets are not enough but they need to ensure regular usage to maintain cleanliness and to keep diseases at bay. The district in order to maintain its open defecation free (ODF) status has to ensure that its denizens maintain hygiene and sanitation all along, as the administration alone cannot do it. The report has revealed that in some areas people shun the use of toilets due to social, cultural, behavioural and psychological reasons. “Poor hygiene and sanitation practices lead to diarrhea, typhoid, cholera, dysentery, and polio,” she added.

Urging the students and youth to inculcate hygienic practices in their homes, Jalli urged the citizens to actively take part in the Swachh Survekshan Grameen to catapult Hailakandi to the state and national level stature.

Organized by the District Water Sanitation Committee, the function was attended, among others, by Inspector of Schools, Rajiv Kumar Jha and officials of the Public Health Engineering Department and other concerned departments.

The district administration is making all-out efforts to create awareness on cleanliness and urging citizens, employees, traders and students to provide feedback and to vote by downloading the app.
