The Sentinel (TS): Share your experience in South Asian Games in Nepal.

Kabita Devi(KD): I won two gold medals in the championship and the feeling was fantastic when I saw Indian flag go-high during the award function.

(TS): Do you feel fencing in Assam is getting a new dimension because of you?

(KD): It’s the sports fraternity to judge. I just love the game and trying my best to bring glory for my state as well as for my country.

(TS): After SAF Games have you set any new goal?

(KD): Yes. Olympics is my next target. I want to represent India in the forthcoming Olympics and will try my best to get the ticket of Japan. A medal from the Olympics is my ultimate goal.

(TS): How are you preparing for the qualifying round?

(KD): The qualifying round of the Olympics will be held in South Korea in April. Before that I have to attend the preparatory camp which will be held at Patiala from this month.

(TS): How do you come to fencing?

(KD): Actually during the early stage I played different games. Once I traveled with my maternal aunt to Guwahati and one day she took me to the SAI Sports complex. I first saw the game there and my interest grew immediately.

(TS): What about the present scenario of fencing in Assam?

(KD): We have a good number of players and many of them are highly talented. What we need is 2-3 training arenas in the state and a good number of coaches.
