Assam Amateur Boxing Association congratulates Lovlina Borgohain

GUWAHATI: The members of the Assam Amateur Boxing Association (AABA) today congratulated Lovlina Borgohain for her performance which ensured the boxer’s entry in the Japan Olympics. The officials also gave entire credit of this success to the boxer.

Lovlina needed just a win in her quarter-final bout in Asia/Oceania qualifying meet against Uzbekistan’s Maftunakhon Melieva to make her maiden appearance in the Olympics and she did it in style on Sunday. With this performance, Lovlina also became the first women athlete from Assam who will be seen in action in an Olympics.

Addressing a media conference at the AOA Conference Hall in the city the secretary of the Assam Amateur Boxing Association Hemanta Kalita said, “It’s a great moment for us. She worked very hard to produce this performance and the boxer deserves full credit for it.”

Lovlina however lost her semi final bout today against third seed and 2018 world silver-medallist Hong Gu of China in a unanimous 5-0 verdict.

Apart from Kalita the media conference was also attended by the president of the Assam Amateur Boxing Association Kalikanta Boro and the general secretary of the Assam Olympic Association Lakhya Konwar. In a brief speech Lakhya today assured all possible helps to Lovlina during her preparation for Olympics.

Meanwhile the Assam Amateur Boxing Association today announced that the next edition of the Youth National Boxing Championship will be held at Diphu during the later part of this year.
