GUWAHATI: Haryana posted a seven-wicket win over Assam in the Ranji Trophy Group C match at Lalhi, Haryana today. The four-day match lasted just two-day.
Chasing 97 runs for victory, Haryana reached the target in 20 overs losing three wickets and collected six points from the game.
In reply to Assam’s first innings total of 97, Haryana were bowled out 198 in the first innings yesterday.
Assam did not have a great start in the morning. The visitors who opened their second innings with a 101-run deficit, lost opener Kunal Saikia for a duck. Shubam Mandal (6) and Rishav Das (8) too followed him quickly. This brought together captain Gokul Sharma (44, 86 balls, 6 fours) and Riyan Parag (36, 36 balls, 3 fours, 2 sixes) and the duo added 55 runs for the fourth wicket.
When it looked like Assam will defy Haryana’s attack for a long period, the home team struck again by picking up Riyan.
But the damage was nicely stitched by captain Gokul Sarma and Saahil Jain (63, 101 balls, 7 fours, 1 six) as they gathered 60 runs for the fifth-wicket partnership.
The partnership was broken when Gokul returned to the pavilion on team’s total of 138. Later, Saahil and Rajjakuddin Ahmed also made another good partnership of 50 runs for the sixth wicket. But once Haryana separated the duo, the innings didn’t last too long. Assam lost its last five wickets for just nine runs. HV Patel finished off the tail picking three wickets (4-49 overall in the innings).
