GUWAHATI: Assam Olympic Association congratulated every medal winner including Assam girl Lovlina Borgohain in Tokyo Olympics which concluded on Sunday. The secretary of the Assam Olympic Association Lakhya Konwar said this time India made the best ever performance in the history of the Games by winning seven medals and it's a very proud moment for India.

"Congratulations to every medal winner as well as all the athletes and functionaries of the Indian team for producing such a fantastic performance. Earlier our best show was in the London Olympics where we won six medals. The record is broken in Tokyo. We are very glad," said Konwar.

He felt the present success of India in the Olympics was the result of Target Olympic Podium (TOP) scheme. The scheme, aimed to win 10 medals at the 2020 Olympics, was introduced by the Modi Government in 2014 and under this scheme potential players received expensive world class training.

It may be mentioned here that former Union Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal played a key role in implementing the scheme in a proper way.

AOA also thanked Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for taking steps to boost the sports circles in the State.
