GUWAHATI: Assam were on the verge of defeat against Andhra Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy tie. After bowling out 113 in the first innings on day I yesterday Assam were also struggling in the second innings at Vizianagaram  on wednesday. Visitors, started their second innings with a deficit of 248 runs, were 62-5 at stumps and were still trailing by 186 runs.

Assam made a change in the batting order and promoted Abhishek Thakuri to open the innings with Subham Mandal here on wednesday. The first wicket partnership produced 20 runs before Subham (7) lost his wicket. Thereafter the side quickly reduced to 57-5 as Abhisshek (19), Rishav Das (11), Riyan Parag (9) and Swarupam Purkayastha (1)-no one were able to stay on the wicket. At stumps Gokul Sharma was playing at 5 and Kunal Saikia (0) was accompanying him.

Earlier, riding on three good knocks, Andhra Pradesh finished their first innings 361. Opener Ashish Reddy scored 75 and captain G H Vihari contributed 80 on the board. Karan Shinde remained not out on 90. Among the bowlers of Assam Swarupam Purkayastha (4-48) came out with the best figure. Riyan Parag (2-67), Siddharth Sarmah (2-37), Mukhtar Hussain (1-87) and Hridip Deka (1-87) were the other wicket taking bowlers.
