GUWAHATI: Assam bowed out from the Senior National Women Football Championship after giving a tough fight to Manipur in the quarterfinals held at Kuthuparamba, Kerala today. Assam lost the tie 1-2.

Manipur, the title contender, were favourites in the game but they had to face a tough time on the ground today. It was Assam who took the lead in the game through inform striker Sonia Marak. The match was 35th minute old when Sonia put the ball inside the net to give Assam the lead and the side went into the lemon break with 1-0 advantage.

However Manipur got their two goals in a gap of three minutes in the early part of the second half. They got the equalizer through a suicide goal from Mina Basumatary in the 49th minute. Poonam scored the winning goal for Manipur just three minutes later.
