Cachar lift U-19 Khakan Ahmed Inter-District cricket title

GUWAHATI: Cachar lifted the U-19 Khakan Ahmed Inter-District Cricket Tournament thrashing Chirang by 111 runs in the final held at the Latasil ground here today. The competition was revived after a gap of 16 years.

Riding on a good knock from Aman Singh, Cachar after being invited to bat, scored 195-8 in their 20 overs. Aman took just 47 balls to score 94 runs with the help of six boundaries and eight over boundaries. He got good support from Basanta Kumar (44). Binod Sarkar of Chirang finished with 4-18.

In reply, Chirang struggled from the very beginning and were bowled out for 85 runs. Subhajit Paul, who received the best bowler of the meet and best player of the championship awards, bagged 4-18. Aman Singh was adjudged best player of the final along with the best batsman award of the meet. Harish Basfor of Chirang received best fielder award.

The closing function was attended by the Principal Secretary (Sports and Youth Welfare) Avinash Joshi as the chief guest and Member Secretary of SLAC Lakhya Konwar as guest of honour. Several former Ranji cricketers also attended the closing function along with the top officials of the Sports and Youth Welfare Department.
