Changlang District Badminton Championship kicks off

BORDUMSA: The first ever Changlang District Badminton Championship kicked off here at Jairampur in Changlang District of Arunachal Pradesh.

The inaugural ceremony of tournament was attended by a host of dignitaries from across the district including Somlung Mossang the MLA 49 Bordumsa Diyun constituency, Laisam Simai the incubment MLA Jairampur, Manish Sharma the Commandment 13 Assam Rifles , SS Chowdhury the ADC Jairampur.

The championship being played at Terit Nagar based Multipurpose Hall in Jairapmur was inaugurated by Somlung Mossang the MLA of nearby 49 Bordumsa Diyun Constituency in the august presence of dignitaries from various walks of life.

Somlung Mossang during his chief guest address congratulated the budding players of the district for being able to participate in the event first of its kind in the district wherein the deserving but hidden sportsman from remote Bordumsa, Miao, Kharsang, Jairampur and Changlang, Nampong and Manmao can avail the much awaited platform to exhibit his or her talent and move forward at the state,national and international arena.

Lauding the efforts of Laisam Simai the local MLA who has also been the President of the Changlang District Badminton Association Mossang impressed upon the fact that the youths of the society being very instrumental in bringing about social change must also undertake other sportive and cultural curricular and earn fames for himself and the society.

Simai the President of the organizing committee and Commandant 23 AR Jairampur Manish Sharma the invited guest also speaking almost in the same vein encouraged the participants and said that sportsman spirits not only keep us physically fit, it also moulds us to be mentally strong, nurturing a sense of discipline, being fortitude and yes calculative in life as in the arena.

According to BP Lahon, the chief Umpire of the C'ship, 7 badminton clubs out of 8 have confirmed their participation. 5 players reperesenting each club would strive in the battle for supremacy. 'The newly built indoor stadium being in fantastic condition can accommodate 4 players at a time in double court including both the Men's and Women's in single and double format ', said Mr Lahon adding the tournament is being played on a knock out format.

It may be mentioned here that the winners of the tournament might be selected for the state level Dorjee Khandu Badminton Tournament slated to be held at the state capital Itanagar from September 9 to 11.
