GUWAHATI: He wins gold and also shattered the junior national record but still Assam’s weightlifter Gulap Gogoi is not happy with his performance. Gogoi feels he is capable to perform much better than he did today.

Gulap broke the junior national record (clean and jerk score and total score) in the 81kg category of U-21 men event. He recorded a snatch score of 120 and a clean and jerk score of 155 on way to win gold with a total score of 275.

Talking to the media persons after today’s event Gulap hails from Dibrugarh, said,“ Winning a gold medal with the new record is a nice feeling but I feel I should’ve done better.”.

The weightlifter, joined the game in 2014, is currently practicing for the trials for the forthcoming Junior Commonwealth Championship which will be held in February.

The secretary of the Assam Weightlifting Association Bhabajyoti Goswami today congratulates Gulap for his record-breaking performance. Talking to The Sentinel Goswami said, “He made a good show and this performance will boost his confidence level further.”

Goswami is also happy with the performance of State weightlifters in the Games. “We have won eight medals which included 3 gold and 3 silvers. So I can say weightlifting has a good future in Assam and we are capable to produce Olympian in this game.”
