India and Oman gearing up for FIFA World Cup qualifier

GUWAHATI: India and Oman team, arrived in the city yesterday to participate in the FIFA World Cup qualifier, made their first workout today. Oman visited SAI Sports Complex while Indian team traveled to the Sarusajai Sports Complex for their routine practice session.

India are placed in group ‘E’ along with Oman, Qatar, Bangladesh and Afghanistan in the FIFA World Cup qualifier. India will start their campaign with the match against Oman which will be held at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium on Thursday. The match will kick off at 7-30 PM.

Although local boy Halicharan Narzary will miss this match but another local lad Vinit Rai is the part of the team. However Assam Football Association is optimistic that no seat of Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium would remain empty on Thursday. Till this evening nearly 9000 tickets are sold and it is expected to be increased further as the Assam Football Association opened a counter at the Sarusajai Sports complex today to sale tickets off line.

The president of the Assam Football Association Naba Doley today informed the media that the preparation of the match is on right track and they are taking all the precautionary measures so that local crowds don’t face any problem to witness the match on Thursday.
