Nikhat Zareen ready to face Mary Kom in Big Bout Boxing League

GUWAHATI: The charm of the bout is not less than a Derby match and it is going to be happened on December 17. The boxing fan of India is eagerly waiting for the day when six time World champion MC Mary Kom will take on Nikhat Zareen in Big Bout Boxing League.

Mary Kom is representing Punjab Panthers in the competition and Nikhat is participating for NE Rhinos. Both the teams will face each other on December 17.

This will be the first meeting between Mary Kom and Nikhat ever since the controversy over selection trial for the Olympic qualifier broke out.

Nikhat was in the city today to participate in the launch function of her team NE Rhinos. Apart from Sanjiv Narayan, the owner of the team, the function was also attended by most of the boxers of the team including Nikhat and Pwilao Basumatary and Hemanta Kalita, the secretary of the Assam Boxing Association. Pwilao, who won a gold medal in the Women Elite boxing yesterday in Kannur, will join the team from next match

Talking to The Sentinel at the side line of the function Nikhat said, “I belief on my-self. I am ready to take Mary on the ring and will try my best to win the bout.”

Mary is far ahead then Nikhat when it comes about experience. But the boxer is not too much worried about it. “No one is perfect. I have been working on my strong point and definitely have some plans which I don’t want to reveal right now,” said Nikhat.

It may be mentioned here that both Nikhat and Mary will face each other in 51kg selection trail which will be held in later part of this month. The winner of the tie will participate in the Olympic qualifier schedule for next year.

Meanwhile Sanjiv Narayan today revealed that NE Rhinos have chalked out several plans to promote the game in the region. He also said: ‘We have planned to start a boxing academy in Guwahati for the budding boxers. If everything goes as per plan it will start very soon.”
