GUWAHATI: State government gave necessary clearance to the Hockey India and Assam Hockey to bring the next edition of the Junior World Cup Hockey 2021 to Guwahati. The championship is scheduled to be held in India. Assam Hockey is keen to host the event in Guwahati in association with Hockey India and State Government .

Altogether 16 top teams of the world will participate in the championship.

Secretary of Assam Hockey Tapan Das, who is also the treasurer of Hockey India, today received the formal letter of the State Government from Ranuj Kumar Borkotoky, Joint Secretary to the Government of Assam Sports & Youth Welfare Department.

Talking to The Sentinel Das said, "It's a huge tournament and if we get the chance to host it would not only boost hockey in Assam but also the entire Northeast. I thank both Chief Minister SarbanandaSonowal and Finance Minister HimantaBiswaSarma for their support towards this championship."

Das, who is actively associated with Assam Hockey for a long period, added, " Apart from hosts India all top teams of the world would take part in this championship which would be a great crowed puller".

It may be mentioned here that during his recent visit in Guwahati the president of Hockey India GyanendroNigombam admitted that Guwahati had bright chances to host the event
