Amit Shah Discusses Manipur's Current Situation With the Governor

IMPHAL: On Monday, during his visit to the violent state, Union Home Minister Amit Shah met with Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey.

For his four-day stay in Manipur, Amit Shah arrived in Imphal on Monday. He was greeted at the airport by Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, who remarked that his coming has increased public trust.

According to sources, he presided over a meeting with the state chief minister, ministers, senior leaders, and officials as soon as he arrived in the state to assess the situation.

Throughout his visit to the state through June 1st, the home minister is scheduled to hold numerous rounds of negotiations.

Mr. Shah presided over a meeting with N Biren Singh, the chief minister of Manipur, other state ministers, senior leaders, and officials earlier in the day to assess the situation and map out the next efforts to bring about normality in the area.

Nityanand Rai, Ajay Bhalla, the head of the Intelligence Bureau, Tapan Deka, and other key figures from the state and the federal government were all present when he convened the meeting.

Earlier this week, on his visit to Assam- a state sharing borders with Manipur- Amit Shah revealed plans to travel to the northeastern state. Recent events in Manipur were marked by a huge commotion and conflict between local populations.

The meeting was held even as new violence struck the northeastern State a day earlier, shortly after the Home Minister landed in Imphal on his four-day trip to Manipur.

The meeting's objectives were to examine the state of affairs in Manipur and devise new plans for bringing the country back to normalcy.

While this was going on, the Army mobilized three columns on Sunday to set up numerous Mobile Vehicle Check Posts (MVCP) and capture the trouble- makers in advance of Amit Shah's visit, in response to specific intelligence about armed miscreants venturing out with the intent of carrying out premeditated attacks on security forces in the vicinity of the City Convention Centre in Imphal East.

In contrast, nearly 2,000 Meitei villagers were transported from Serou to the Pangaltabi relief camp in defence and private vehicles under the protection of the Assam Rifles during a significant evacuation drive organised by the Army and Assam Rifles in coordination with the police, State Administration, and Civil Society Organisations.
