Assam Rifles extends aid to people on Loktak Lake in Bishnupur district of Manipur

GUWAHATI: Troops of the Assam Rifles under the aegis of the Army extended humanitarian aid to the residents of Loktak Lake in Bishnupur district of Manipur on April 28, stated a press release.

In the wake of the ongoing lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic, locals residing in temporary huts in the lake were facing acute shortage of daily basic supplies. The troops sensing the gravity, pooled in resources and distributed essential rations to 12 needy and isolated families staying inside the lake.

The kind gesture, a first of its kind, was appreciated by the locals and CSOs alike in the area. The ‘Friends of North East’ provide succour to poor and assist in alleviating the hardships of locals.
