Drugs-manufacturing unit busted in Thoubal, Manipur

THOUBAL (Manipur): A team of Thoubal District Police busted a brown sugar manufacturing laboratory at Thoubal Moijing Awang Leikai. The police seized around 435.945 kg brown sugar, 438 litres of morphine liquid along with many other items on Thursday morning.

Acting on a tip-off that illegal drugs were being manufactured at the residence of MdKayamuddin alias Amuthi, 34, son of HabiburRahaman of ThoubalMoijingAwangLeikai, Thoubal Police launched the operation and succeeded in busting the manufacturing unit.

However, by the time the team reached the house, Kayamuddin along with his wife Athotpi and their associates managed to escape from the location.

The seized items are two polycarbonate drums containing suspected morphine liquid, seven buckets each of 100 litres capacity containing suspected morphine liquid, 16 plastic sacks containing suspected brown sugar among other items.

The confiscated items were later handed over to the Officer-in-Charge of Thoubal Police Station for further action. (Agencies)
