Manipur CM Holds Review Meeting on Preparedness for the Fight Against Covid-19

Manipur- The Chief Minister of Manipur N.Biren Singh on Tuesday held a review meeting with various DCs, SPs, and CMOs to discuss the preparedness for the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. 

N.Biren Singh strongly emphasized accelerating the vaccination process, ramping up the production of the supply of medical oxygen, and set up dedicated COVID care centres in each district. 

Many COVID care centres in Manipur have been made functional again keeping in mind the surge in the cases of the novel coronavirus. These centres were opened last year during the first wave of the novel coronavirus but were later shut down as the cases started to decline. 

An exclusive COVID care centre for women will be made available in the Bal Bhawan at Khuman Lampak in Imphal. Similarly, another centre will be opened at a youth centre in the same locality exclusively for male Covid-19 patients. 

Since the new mutant variant of the novel coronavirus is seen to have the potential to infect young people, the government of Manipur is now focusing on administering the COVID-19 vaccination to the youths of the state. 

N.Biren Singh also inspected the oxygen plant at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal which is supplying medical oxygen to the COVID-19 patients in the state. 

As of Monday, Manipur reported 146 new cases of the novel coronavirus taking the total tally of the state's caseload to 30,567. Five COVID-induced fatalities have been reported from Manipur in the last 24 hours taking the total death toll in the state to 390. With a recovery rate of 95.74 per cent, the total cases of recovered patients amount to 29,267. 

As per reports of the State Health Department, a total of 1,30,979 people have been vaccinated so far. 

Meanwhile, India on Monday reported 3.23 lakh fresh COVID-19 cases taking the total caseload of the country to over 1.76 crores. 2,771 COVID-induced deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours with the total death toll now amounting to over 1.97 lakhs. There are over 28.74 lakh active cases of the novel coronavirus in the country. However, India finally saw a downward spiral in the number of COVID-19 cases with 8.4% fewer cases than the previous day. It is the sixth consecutive day that over 3 lakh cases have been reported in the country.
