IMPHAL: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren has called for the cooperation and active involvement of Church leaders, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and indigenous and recognized communities in restoring peace and normalcy in the State, drawing inspiration from the role played by the Committee of Peace and Integrity (COPAI) in the 1990s.
Today, the Chief Minister inaugurated several projects and laid the foundation stones for new ones during the 42nd Maralui Karalimei Swijoikang (Maram Students' Union) conference, held at N Raisung Ground, Maram Bazar, Senapati. The event was themed "Towards a Transformed Society."
N Biren inaugurated the Multipurpose Rural Development Centre in Maram Khullen and laid the foundation stones for several key projects, including the construction of a rigid pavement at Senapati district headquarters, tribal boys' and girls' hostels in Maram, a tourist circuit in the Maram area, Meeyamgi Shanglen (Multipurpose Indoor Hall), sports grounds with galleries in Maram and Punanamei, the office of the SDO Lairouching, and infrastructure for CHC Maram, PHC Maram Khullen, and the Maram police station.
As the chief guest, Chief Minister N Biren Singh addressed the gathering, stating that the bond between the people of Maram and their neighbors, as well as those from distant places, has existed since time immemorial.
He also expressed his happiness upon witnessing the discipline of the students, who are dedicated to their work.
The Chief Minister emphasized that fostering inclusive development, mutual respect, and equitable sharing will promote unity and a sense of oneness among all communities in the State.
Highlighting several welfare schemes that have benefited lakhs of people, he noted that initiatives like Go to Village, CMHT, and various other citizen-centric programs were launched to achieve the goal of uniform development in both the hills and the valley.
He mentioned that a multi-storey vehicle parking facility is being constructed in Senapati, marking the first of its kind in the State. Additionally, an Indigenous sports complex is being built at an estimated cost of around Rs 14 crore. He urged the public to extend their cooperation and support for the timely completion of various development projects underway in the district.
He also called for the cooperation and active participation of church leaders, CSOs, and various indigenous and recognized communities in restoring normalcy and peace in the State, following the example set by the Committee of Peace and Integrity in the 1990s. Francis Ngajokpa, former Minister, urged the gathering to adopt a positive mindset in all aspects of life from the very start of their journey.
He also encouraged everyone to make the most of the available facilities and resources for the betterment of society. Former Deputy Speaker of Manipur, K. Raina, commended the Chief Minister for his dedication and concern for MKS.
Referring to the theme of the conference, he stated that the Chief Minister is a role model for a transformed society, as numerous changes have been implemented in the State through various programs. Earlier, N Biren unveiled the monolith and hoisted the flag for the 42nd MKS conference.
