IMPHAL: Chief Minister of Manipur N. Biren Singh has warned sternly against the spread of divisive social media rumors that are aimed at creating conflict between communities.

While delivering his official address, Singh expressed serious concern over the dangerous activities of a few individuals and assured the people that the government is working in earnest to identify and take stringent action against such elements.

“I have learned that some miscreants are using social media to spread rumors and create enmity between communities. I have directed relevant departments to trace and take action against the culprits,” he stated, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy toward such acts. 

The Chief Minister announced financial assistance to people living in relief camps as a response to the plight of families displaced by recent unrest. As part of this, 5,225 displaced persons are getting ₹5,000 each, and 80 others are getting ₹10,000 each. The assistance is intended to provide immediate relief to families affected by the crisis.

Singh continued to say that long-term rehabilitation strategies are being adopted to compensate the dislodged, while efforts to stabilize affected communities continue. Relief distribution and essential services have been some of the strategies of the government in plans to ensure recovery and rebuild trust among communities.

The Chief Minister appealed for unity, asking the public to verify information before posting it online, emphasizing responsible use of social media. "Unity is the need of the hour for the peace and progress of our state," he said.

The government is committed to solving the problems of misinformation and unrest, with the goal of restoring stability and protecting all citizens.
