
IMPHAL: In a significant operation, at least 5 active members of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party-Noyol (KCP-N) group were arrested from various areas of Imphal East and Imphal West Districts in Manipur by security forces, police said on Tuesday.
The arrested cadres have been identified as Khoisnam Sanajaoba Singh (27), Khoinaijam Robertson Singh (24), Soubam Rohit Singh (23), Leishangthem Naobi Singh (33), and Khaidem Nongpoknganba Meitei (25). According to the authorities, they were involved in extortion and intimidation.
A substantial cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from their possession, including one 9 mm pistol loaded with three live rounds in the magazine and a pistol holster. Additionally, security forces seized 3 mobile phones and two two-wheelers.
Under the relevant sections of the law, the arrested persons and the seized items are now in the concerned police station for legal proceedings, according to the officials.
Manipur Police arrested three active cadres of different banned outfits in various parts of the state earlier on March 28. Aimed at curbing militant activities in the conflict-ridden region, the arrests were part of intensified search operations.
In a separate operation, one KCP (Politburo Standing Committee) cadre, Rohit Singh, also known as Pukhrambam Kakpa, was arrested at Khundrakpam Awang Leikai under the jurisdiction of Heingang Police Station, Imphal East District, along with three insurgents.
